Acid Breaks is a genre of dance club music, emerged in the late 1980s in the USA. Acid breaks combinates rhythmic patterns of music styles such as acid, acid techno and breakbeat. The characteristic sound of the style is achieved by using and mixing high tones of the legendary synthesizer Roland TB-303 from the late 80s.

When synth`s sound gained mainstream success, it began to be used not only in house records, but also in compositions of other styles, especially in music with funk rhythms. That`s how the acid breaks style has appeared. The first acid breaks track «Acid Break» was recorded by a little-known producer Zak Baney in 1987.

The popularity of the style continued until the 00s, some tracks even became global hits. The acid breaks style was enriched by legendary projects including The Crystal Method, Goon, New Order, Apollo 440. However, acid breaks hasn`t become a self-contained phenomenon because of the lack of sub-culture features.
