Reggaeton

Reggaeton is a music style and dance emerged in Panama and Puerto Rico influenced by reggae, dancehall, and rap. The style became popular with Latin countries of Caribbean island and with Latinos from the USA.

Reggaeton is a form of dance music emerged in Puerto Rico and became very popular with youth in Latin America since the 90s. First Latin reggae records were released in Panama in the 70s. Jamaican immigrants, who arrived to build Panama Canal, showed reggae music to local people. Artists such as El General, Nando Boom, Chico Man, Rene Renegado, Black Apache showed respect to first reggae DJs.

The term «reggae» was coined in Puerto Rico for a definition of the specific fusion of several music styles. Reggaeton became an international movement with the help of communities like New York`s Latino and Black Hip Hop. Reggaeton is a fusion of Jamaican reggae and dancehall music with Latin rhythms like bomba and plena. Lyrics are usually Spanish, or Spanglish (a combination of English and Spanish languages).
