Aggrotech

Aggrotech is a style of electronic music that consists of aggressive rhythmic dance music.

Birth: 2001 Bloom: 2002 Death: 2003

The term first appeared in the USA in 2001 and defined the music of the second Psyclon Nine`s album — I.N.R.I. In Germany the style was called as Hellektro and represented by Funker Vogt, Grendel, Suicide Commando (Belgians) and Hocico (Mexicans).

As a music genre, it`s typified by distorted vocals, and as the result a vocal usually has a husky cutting tone. Besides, melodies of aggrotech are often atonal.

Dark electro and electro industrial styles that have been popular since the 90s are believed to be forerunners of aggrotech, which had almost vanished by 2003. The word «aggrotech» is short for «aggressive techno». Because of the significant influence of industrial subculture styles the techno part in aggrotech was almost suppressed. However, now there is a place for guitar sound and depressing gothic atmosphere.
