Glitch Hop

Glitch hop is a young style of electronic music that emerged at the junction of instrumental hip-hop, IDM, glitch, and dubstep.

Birth: 2004 Bloom: 2007

A glitch hop track is usually based on classic hip-hop beats, which actively punctuate with «abstruse» glitch beats and characteristic clicks/snaps of IDM music. A music arrangement is based on various curved cycles with abrupt drops of frequencies and overdub of vocal samples in unexpected places.

Glitch hop can be divided into two types: minimalistic (a sound close to ambient) and bass (a sound close to dubstep). The esthetics of the style has been developing for a long time, but it has extended beyond the scope of the genre only a few years ago. Today, many artists are considered as harbingers of glitch hop appearance, among them attention should be paid to Prefuse 73 and The Glitch Mob. The most popular artists of this style — Flying Lotus, Pretty Lights, KOAN Sound, Lazer Sword.

There is a special site (forum) for the fans of this style – glitchhopforum.com.
