Funky house is a definition for a commercially oriented sub-genre of house music formed by the influence of disco and funk. Funky house is typified by four-on-the-floor beat and a tempo about 126-128 BPM.

Funky house is fun, positive and saturated music, with guitar samples, abrupt breaks, brass, and vocals (usually female) that reminiscent soul music.

Funky house first appeared in the mid-80s in the USA, but it was fully formed with all the characteristic features only in the early 90s. Releases by the cult garage label Strictly Rhythm made funky house extremely popular, then leading labels of dance electronic music like Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi began to release regular funky house compilations. A number of artists gained their popularity by playing funky house: Moto Blanco, Stonebridge, Freemasons, Soul Central, and DJs -Armand van Helden and Seamus Haji.
